The stronger your business communications are, the less likely you are to be affected by risks like “uncertainty”.

VirusAs stated by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce President, Tom Bracken’s in his op-ed in the Star Ledger  “… the biggest impact of the coronavirus right now is the uncertainty.” The coronavirus (COVID-19) has created uncertainty in the markets and within the public. The ramifications of this uncertainty on individual businesses will play out over the course of the next days, weeks and months.

So how do we mitigate uncertainty?

Timely and informative communications can promote confidence in your business relationships. Provide staff, clients and vendors with pertinent business updates to reduce the potential negative impacts of uncertainty. When we know the facts and share our plans for how we are managing the negative impacts, it builds trust and confidence within our sphere of influence.

What do we know right now?

Social distancing is one of the most effective ways to combat the pandemic we are facing. Therefore our telephone, video conferencing and email communications will be at the heart of our interactions with staff, clients and vendors.

Network, network, network

Networking during these challenging times can be a useful tool in learning how other businesses are coping with the uncertainty and market changes. Reach out to business partners and associates, learn what they are doing to support their employees and fortify their businesses.

Encourage a Healthy Workplace

Stay up to date with factual information from credible sources so that you can keep your workforce safe. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated their main business and employee page with two informative links, the first is to their article Interim Guidance for Businesses and Employers. This article is packed with useful information that can help you and your staff remain safe and healthy. The second is an article on their Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations.

Stay Abreast of Business and Market Recommendations

Keep up to date with business management resources like your local, state and national Chambers of Commerce. In my state the NJ Chamber of Commerce has developed a Business Leader’s Guide to the Coronavirus. This article contains information and links they have collected about how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting NJ and its business community.

Stay in Close Contact with Clients and Vendors

In this day of advancing technologies there are many tools available to effectively communicate with our clients and vendors. Utilizing email marketing software like Robly or Constant Contact, can help you keep your clients informed of any operational changes you implement, i.e. change in business hours or implementation of new communication options. Meetings with clients and vendors don’t need to be canceled they can be handled via telephone or video conference tools like Zoom and WebEx. And if you need help with learning how to utilize any of these tools we are here to help! Our staff of professional communicators can educate your staff on use of these tools or create professional communications for you.
